The General Accounting Manager position will supervise activities to support financial and accounting administration for an international legal entity within an operating division.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage all functions of finance and accounting within each area of service - accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, cost accounting, and general accounting.
  • Responsible for month end close activities. 
  • Approve journal entries posted into account balances.  
  • Determine appropriate resources to support internal and external audit activities.
  • Maintain, expand, and manage the general ledger to assure data integrity while facilitating both internal and external financial reporting.
  • Review general ledger activity and balances, financial work papers, account reconciliations, and other accounting documentation to assure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal controls over the general ledger and general accounting processes in support of overall Section 404 Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance.
  • Communicate and ensure policies, procedures and best practices are being followed within area of service.
  • Responsible for completeness and accuracy of key reports are documents in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist Director of Finance with forecasting, annual budgets, strategic plans, and other ad hoc divisional reporting requirements.
  • Assist with merger and acquisition process.  Coordinate research activities with internal teams. 
  • Provide leadership on company programs, initiatives, or projects.  Keep appropriate staff involved. 
  • Provide direction on and keep appropriate staff informed of issues or concerns. 
  • Promote and maintain the highest possible environment of service, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain metrics to track and improve processes within each area of service. 
  • Ensure legal and compliance requirements within each area of service are monitored and met. 
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of accounting documentation. 
  • Prepare reports and recommendations on programs or projects. 
  • Keep informed and comply with new developments, methods, and techniques in the accounting profession.  Prepare internal and external customers for new or changed practices. 
  • Coordinate efforts to ensure proper safety and ergonomic standards and guidelines are met in work area.
  • Assure staffing requirements are met. 
  • Encourage team member growth and development.  
  • Adminster annual team member performance review, goal setting, and participate in salary planning
  • Maintain records on direct reports in relation to attendance and performance 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • 5+ years governmental accounting experience in a related position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience working with a United States Parent Company.

 

 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with confidential information and documentation with discretion. 
  • CPA or MPA or local certification equivalent preferred
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities. 
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting theory and procedures is beneficial.
  • Ability to pull data from multiple sources, provide analysis, and recommendations to support business decisions.     
  • Proficiency with a computer, including Microsoft Office and applicable accounting software.
  • Business acumen to work with all levels of leadership. 
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and empower team members to succeed. 
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of patience and service.  
  • Ability to be flexible and multitask. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.
