About the Desktop Administrator role:
The desktop admin role is responsible for the health of the desktop, mobile, and virtual desktop infrastructure for the enterprise. Specifically, the desktop admin will assist the security team with identification and remediation of security vulnerabilities. Another area of focus is around the virtual desktop interface (thin clients). Desktop admins will design, maintain, and apply best practices to the virtual desktop infrastructure. In addition, the desktop admin will monitor the desktop health via multiple tools to ensure desktops are up-to-date, following best practices for encryption and configuration, have anti-virus installed and enabled, and other related areas.


In addition, the desktop admin will be an escalation point for the Service Desk team. For more difficult issues, or issues that span beyond one or a few systems, the desktop administrator will assist in troubleshooting and problem resolution. This includes group policy updates that assist in core operating system functionality, application configuration, and other areas.

The position will also be focused on several projects. Individuals in this role will need excellent communication skills, project and prioritizatino management skills, and will need to assist with designing best practices and processes that can be used by the entire team.


Desktop administrators are required to be in the call rotation for Service Desk on-call.


General Statement of Duties

  • Essential Functions as outlined in IT Service Technician III.
  • Develop, formulate, and direct processes and procedures for end user devices.  Monitor and initiate improvements to current processes or policies. 
  • Recommend computer hardware for the enterprise.
  • Support the overall desktop, laptop, thin-client and mobile solution across the enterprise.
  • Maintain health of end user systems by monitoring encryption, anti-virus, and security patches.
  • Assist security team in identification and remediation of security vulnerabilities.
  • Group policy administration for all end user operating systems.
  • Develop and maintain patching schedules for end user software.
  • Follow and help create department processes and procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain all end user devices through an enterprise asset management solution.
  • Maintain automated deployment infrastructure of operating systems and applications.
  • Lead projects.
  • Create and maintain support documentation.
  • Consistent learning and researching.
  • Final point of escalation for Service Desk technicians.
  • May be called upon to perform comparable duties of a similar or related nature and/or assist in other areas as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities as outlined in IT Service Technician III.
  • Able to operate effectively in a team environment with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Able to manage time effectively, set priorities appropriately, schedule calls, etc.
  • Any relevant certifications preferred.
  • Advanced problem analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.
