The Payroll Specialist is responsible for activities associated with timekeeping and payroll administration for the company.


  • Manage all functions and be a subject matter expert in timekeeping and payroll administration. Have a thorough understanding of the timekeeping and payroll software systems; as well as their interactions with finance and HRIS systems.
  • Serve as payroll administrator by addressing company needs, upgrades, and provide routine troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting assistance for data incoming to ADP and timekeeping.
  • Provide expertise to the company for ad-hoc reporting needs in timekeeping and ADP.
  • Process of payroll data input, payment preparations, and labor distribution procedures. Coordinate payroll procedures with general and cost accounting.
  • Lead or assist with month-end or year-end close activities within area of support.
  • Responsible for timely preparation and submission of required payroll reports, tax reports, and tax payments.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal controls over payroll processes in support of overall Section 404 Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance.
  • Maintain, expand, and manage the timekeeping and payroll processing systems to assure data integrity while facilitating operations, accounting and reporting, and legal requirements.
  • Recommend and assist in creating or maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Prepare entries into accounts and document business transactions.
  • Prepare audit support and coordinate periodic financial, controls, workers’ compensation, and labor audits.
  • Provide assistance and direction on issues, and keep appropriate staff informed of issues or concerns.
  • Promote and maintain the highest possible environment of service, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain metrics to track and improve processes within areas of support.
  • Ensure legal and compliance requirements are monitored and met.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of payroll documentation.
  • Keep informed and comply with new developments, methods, and techniques in payroll management, wage & hour laws, and timekeeping administration.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in a related position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to payroll, labor, and unemployment compensation.
  • Overall tech savviness to understand and troubleshoot system issues and integrations.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and documentation with discretion.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • General knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Proficiency with a computer, including Microsoft Office and applicable software.
  • Business acumen to work with all levels of leadership.
  • Problem-solving abilities. Ability to anticipate and be proactive on potential issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High level of patience and service. Ability to work under tight deadlines to meet schedules.
  • Ability to be flexible and multitask.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.
