Manage the functions of the shipping and transportation activities to meet customer expectations. Contributes to a positive, team-oriented atmosphere and encourages good work habits.



  • Develop and drive strategies, plans, policies, and procedures to generate shipping improvements and efficiencies.
  • Supervise flow of work and adherence to processes and procedures in the shipping and transportation areas.
  • Monitor product quality through shipping operations to ensure it meets quality criteria.
  • Provide direction on shipping issues, and keep appropriate staff informed of issues or concerns.
  • Assist with freight vendor evaluation, recommendation, and selection.
  • Assist other teams in routing, tracking, and quoting complex or international shipments.
  • Maintain close surveillance over receiving and the quality of incoming materials.
  • Provide reports and analysis to monitor and measure effectiveness of quality management practices.
  • Instructs and trains staff on use of inspection and testing devices, methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Responsible for non-conforming materials and to coordinate review meetings.
  • Provide direction on receiving quality issues, and keep appropriate staff informed of issues or concerns.
  • Serve as liaison between departments to assist with activities such as root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and initiate improvement projects to current processes or policies.
  • Responsible to ensure team members receive training needed for their position.
  • Ensure team members have a strong understanding of their job responsibilities.
  • Coordinate efforts to ensure proper safety and ergonomics standards and guidelines are met in work area.
  • Ensure staffing requirements are met.
  • Encourage team member growth and development.
  • Administer annual team member performance reviews, goal setting, and participate in salary planning process.
  • Maintain records on direct reports in relation to attendance and performance.
  • Develop and execute budgets, short-term plans, and long-term plans, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Keeps informed of new developments, methods, and techniques in the shipping and transportation profession.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of ground and air carriers, LTL, and international shipment procedures.
  • Working knowledge of quality control practices and tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and empower team members to succeed.
  • High level of patience and service. Ability to motivate team members.
  • Problem-solving abilities. Ability to identify waste and creatively look for solutions.
  • Ability to be flexible and multitask.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintain accurate records. Proficient with a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.
  • Depending on division, forklift certification is required.
